Paul Cordon Bursts New Theories in Match Fixing

Paul Cordon who had served in the role of chief of ICC’s anti-corruption unit made some staggering claims recently. According to him most of the matches in late 1990s were fixed. Many players behaved weirdly during the matches given the situation they were in and their skills. He feels that before the Delhi Police burst the match fixing racket which included the former South African captain Hansie Cronje match fixing used to be a common phenomenon in cricket. Cricketers often took money unknowingly from bookies to provide secret information about the match, pitch conditions and players. There was vast ignorance in those times over what the players should do and what they should not. Though some of the cases had come to the forefront after the set up of ICC’s anti corruption unit but most of the cases never came to limelight.

Hansie Cronje was caught by the Delhi Police in Claims of Match Fixing

He feels that there is a high probability that some of the matches in World Cup 1999 were fixed beforehand. In those times England had become the Mecca of not only cricket but match fixing too. Many weird incidences have already been shortlisted during that edition of the World Cup. But he confirmed that the next World Cup in South Africa was clean and the anti corruption unit did its best to eradicate any influenced results. The stringent eyes of anti corruption authorities had made match fixing a tough ask for the bookies.

Condon Claims Many Matches during 1999 World Cup were Fixed

According to Paul Cordon the latest increase in spot fixing and match fixing was due to the popularity of T20 cricket. He felt that the party mood propagated by T20 cricket offered a great disguise for the bookies to re-enter the cricket field. They were seen within the stadium and even in the promoters’ box. He also blamed some of the national boards for negligence. The national boards should have kept a strict eye on the actions of their players and taken recursive steps beforehand.
Paul Condon has Made Many Staggering Claims

Cordon feels that though some of the cases have come to light already but many other cases of fixing will soon be revealed. He said that fixing is generally associated with the Indian sub-continental teams only, but their reach his far and wide.
